Psion Teklogix 9160 G2 Wireless Gateway User Manual
Description
You can select DHCP or Static IP.
The Dynamic Host Configuration Protocol (DHCP) is a protocol specifying how a centralized server
can provide network configuration information to devices on the network. A DHCP server "offers" a "lease"
to the client system. The information supplied includes the IP addresses and netmask, plus the address of
its DNS servers and gateway.
Static IP indicates that all network settings are provided manually. You must provide the IP address for the
9160 G2 Wireless Gateway, its subnet mask, the IP address of the default gateway, and the IP address of
at least one DNS nameserver.
If you select DHCP, the 9160 G2 Wireless Gateway will acquire its IP Address, subnet mask, and DNS and
gateway information from the DHCP Servers.
Otherwise, if you select Static IP, fill in the items described in Static IP Settings.
Important: If you do not have a DHCP server on the Internal network and do not plan to
use one, the first thing you must do after bringing up the AP is change the Con-
nection Type from DHCP to Static IP. When you change the Connection Type to
Static IP, you can either assign a new Static IP Address to the AP or continue
using the default address. We recommend assigning a new address so that if
later you bring up another 9160 G2 Wireless Gateway on the same network, the
IP addresses for the two APs will be unique.
If you need to recover the default Static IP address, you can do so by resetting the AP to the factory
defaults as described in "Resetting Factory Default Configuration" on page 316.
If you chose Static IP as the Connection Type, these fields will be enabled.
Enter the Static IP Address in the textboxes.
Enter the Subnet Mask in the textboxes. You must obtain this information from your ISP or network admin-
istrator.
Enter the Default Gateway in the textboxes.
The Domain Name Service (DNS) is a system that resolves the descriptive name of a network
resource to its numeric IP address. You can choose to enable this option, the IP addresses for the DNS
servers will be assigned automatically via DHCP. (This option is only available if you specified DHCP for
the Connection Type.)
If you choose Off, you should assign static IP addresses manually.
