Switched Power Circuit—Theory of
Operation
Switched Power Circuit Components
Gen-Set—If Equipped
The gen-set consists of a generator with an internal
voltage regulator. As the engine turns, the generator
provides voltage to the voltage regulator. The voltage
regulator maintains voltage at or near 48 VDC.
Battery Pack—If Equipped
The battery pack consists of four 12-VDC sealed lead
acid batteries (B1–B4) wired in series. The battery pack
is equipped with a battery gauge to monitor charge
status. The battery pack is protected with a 50-amp fuse
(F1).
Key Switch
The key switch (S2) is a three-position switch (off, run,
and start), used to operate the main control unit.
Main Control Unit
4
The main control unit (U5) has a built-in LCD display and
manages all machine functions.
The bail potentiometer, throttle potentiometer, and mow
switch provide input signals to the main control unit
(MCU). The MCU uses these input signals to control the
reel and traction controllers.
Switched Power Circuit Operation
See Figures 4-12 and 4-13.
Voltage is available to the 30A fuse from the battery pack
or gen-set (engine running). From the 30A fuse, voltage
is available to key switch terminal B and main control unit
connector J1-3.
When the key switch is moved to the run position, voltage
is provided from key switch terminal D to main control
unit connector J2-25. With voltage provided to connector
J2-25, the ignition input becomes active.
When the key switch is moved to the start position,
voltage is provided from key switch terminal A to main
control unit connector J2-24. With voltage provided to
connector J2-24, the start input becomes active. With the
ignition and start inputs active, the main control unit
powers up.
With the main control unit powered up, the main control
unit provides 48 volts to the reel and traction controllers.
The main control unit also provides 15 volts to the mow
switch and 5 volts to the bail and throttle potentiometers.
