8 Using the 780B Test Instrument to Monitor the HDMI CEC and DDC
channel
This section provides procedures for using the optional Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) feature options.
There are two options available:

DDC and CEC monitoring with Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) – The 780B ACA enables you to monitor
CEC and DDC transactions such as HDCP and EDID as well as hot plug related events while emulating an
HDMI source and/or an HDMI sink device(s) in an HDMI system.

DDC and CEC passive monitoring with Auxiliary Channel Analyzer (ACA) – The 780B ACA enables you to
monitor CEC and DDC transactions throughout an HDMI systems comprised of a source, repeater and
sink. You can monitor +5V, hot plug events as well as the HDCP and EDID transactions.
These ACA features require a license key and can be enabled remotely. The features and functions
described in this section are included only if you have purchased either one of the Auxiliary Channel
Analyzer options.
Auxiliary Channel Analyzer – Emulation Monitoring
8.1
The Aux Channel Analyzer test monitors the DDC channel transactions and hot plug events while emulating
HDMI devices. The features and functions described in this section are included only if you have
purchased the Auxiliary Channel Analyzer – Emulation option.
You can view the details of each transaction and save the traces for viewing on the external ACA application
available from the Quantum Data website.
8.1.1 Configurations for Monitoring CEC and/or DDC Transactions with ACA on HDMI Sink Devices
This subsection provides configuration diagrams that depict ACA monitoring of HDMI sink devices, with or
without a repeater while the 780B is emulating an HDMI source device.
