Alternator drive belt

Check the belt tension every 250 h.
NOTICE: Operating the engine with loosened belt may cause insufficient charging of the battery due to slipping belt
in its housing.
Apply finger pressure of about 10 kg (22.0 lb) center of
the belt while the engine is shut down and the starter
key is removed.
Loose of tension should be about 11 – 13 mm (0.433 –
0.512 in).
NOTE: Check any indication of damage on the pulley or
belt due to wear. Check thoroughly to make sure that the
belt is correctly engaged to groove of the pulley. The belt
must be replaced if it is elongated, it has cracks or it is worn
out.
Adjustment of tension
1. Slightly loosen the lock nut (1) and the bolt (2) of the
generator.
2. Turn the adjust bolt (3) of the generator so that the belt
tension is within the specified range.
3. Tighten the lock nut (1) and the bolt (2) to the specified
torque.
Lock nut (1) tightening torque: 84 – 102 N·m (62 – 75 lb
ft)
Bolt (2) tightening torque: 141 – 172 N·m (104 – 127 lb
ft)
Replacement of belt
NOTICE: If the belt breaks, the message ALTERNATOR is displayed. Stop the engine, remove the starter key, and
then replace the belt.
1. Loosen the lock nut (1) and the bolt (2).
2. Remove the belt.
3. Install a new belt, and adjust the belt tension.
4. After the adjustment, run the engine at the idling speed
for approximately 5 min, and then stop the engine to
recheck the belt tension.
