Fuel filters

Check the water deposit at the bottom of each filter body every 10 h or every day.
The separation of water mixed to the fuel should be mainly done in the fuel pre-filter. Nevertheless, water may pass
and deposit at the bottom of the fuel filter body. Make sure to regularly drain water from the pre-filter, and from
the main filter if needed, in order to keep the overall performance of the filters and to avoid severe damages to
the fuel injection system.
NOTICE: In cold weather, water may freeze on top of the filter bodies. Wait until ice melts before drainage.
If the floating ring in the pre-filter reaches the level indi-
cated by the line (A) proceed as follows:
1. Place a container with an appropriate capacity below
the end of the drain hose (1).
2. Loosen the drain plug (2) and the air bleed plug (3), and
drain water from the pre-filter body.
3. When the floating ring reaches the bottom of the filter
body, tighten the drain plug (2) and the air bleed plug
(3). The tightening torque of the drain plug must be 2
– 3 N·m (1.48 – 2.21 lb ft), and the tightening torque of
the air bleed plug must be 8 – 12 N·m (5.90 – 8.85 lb
ft).
NOTICE: Overtightening can damage the seal.
4. Check the main filter bodies: if the floating ring in the
main filters reaches the level indicated by the line (B)
proceed as for the pre-filter. The positions of the drain
plug (4) and of the air bleed plug (5) of the fuel main
filters are shown in the picture.
5. Check for any leak from the filter bodies.
