Checking the Pump/ASF Motor (2)
After the pump properly absorbs ink from the printhead, the pump/ASF
mechanism is reset. If the torque from the motor isn't properly transmitted
through the gear train, a fatal error may occur.

Check that gear (25.8) is correctly engaged with the gear train near the
right frame. The timing of these gears must be set precisely; two out-
of-phase gears may bring the entire mechanism to a halt. The
following timings are crucial:
Between the paper load roller driver transmission gear and the

double clutch gear.

Between the double clutch gear and the paper return transmission
gear (white).

Between the white and cream paper return transmission gears.
Between the paper return transmission gear on the timing belt and

the paper return transmission cam.
Between the paper return transmission cam and the paper return

driver roller.
Between the cam gear in the friction release gear train, two

transmission gears inside the frames, and the paper return driving
cam gears (for both frames).
Check the internal coil resistance of the solenoid. If the solenoid

doesn't meet these specifications, replace it.
 Specification:
115
 Check points:
Between Pins 1 and 3 or Pins 2 and 4 of CN16 on
the C228 DRV board, and between Pins 5 and 1 of
CN8.
If the resistance is infinity, replace the motor.
If the problem still isn't fixed, replace the C228 DRV board.

If the fatal error still occurs, replace the main board.
PROBLEM: LEDS INDICATE A MAINTENANCE ERROR.
One of the waste ink counters has passed the limit. See section 6.3 for
instructions on how to clear the error.

IMPORTANT
The printer is equipped with 3 waste ink
counters A, B and D. Replace all waste ink
pads at once, since all three counters are
reset when the "Maintenance Error" is
cleared.
PROBLEM: COLORS DIFFER BETWEEN PRINTERS.
If one user uses two or more Stylus Pro 5000 printers, they may notice
differences in color output between the two printers. The printer is
equipped with Auto Color Calibration, and differences in color output
should be unnoticeable. However, if the PC host doesn't support a bi-
directional parallel interface, the adjustment values stored in the EEPROM
are not sent to the driver. You must enter the adjusted values into the
driver.
1. Connect the printer to the PC and turn them both on.
2. From the printer settings dialog box, select the Utility tab. Click the
Printer and Option Information button.
3. The windows for "Printer ID" are grayed out. Select Setting Sheet. The
printer prints the adjusted values stored in the EEPROM.
4. Enter the values from the sheet into the six Printer ID windows.
Each of the two printheads consists of 2 rows of head nozzles for each
color, and the amount of ink ejected differs slightly from nozzle to nozzle if
a constant voltage is applied. Ink is ejected from each nozzle and weighed
during printhead manufacture, and the data is stored in the driver as the
Printer ID. The printer adjusts the voltage applied to each nozzle according
to the Printer ID. These adjustments allow each nozzle to eject an equal
amount of ink.
