When planetary gear 1 is engaged with the cam gear, the pump/ASF
motor drives the transmission gear, which drives the paper load/eject gear
train. The motor does not drive the black transmission gear that drives the
pump.

PLATEN GAP ADJUSTMENT MECHANISM

The printer uses the paper type driver setting to automatically adjust the
platen gap.

The carriage hits the flag at the left edge of the printer (near the paper
width sensor) when:

Printing on plain paper or Photo Quality Ink Jet paper using Super
MicroDot printing

The media type lever is set to thick, or
Manual feed thick paper mode is selected using the advanced control

panel functions (see chapter 1).
