CARRIAGE MECHANISM

The carriage unit pushes the ink disengage/engage lever. This starts the
pump. The carriage also pushes a lever that starts the platen gap
adjustment mechanism.

Function
Detects paper jams and whether
the carriage is in the home
position.
Sends the print timing signal
(PTS) to the Multi Layer Piezo
Element (PZT).
Detects the width of every sheet
loaded, thereby preventing ink
from getting on the platen.
Carriage Guide Shafts
Unlike previous EPSON ink jet printers, two carriage guide shafts support
the whole carriage in the Stylus Pro 5000. Since there are 2 shafts
supporting the carriage, the platen gap can be changed without tilting the
carriage and altering the ink droplet pattern.
