PROBLEM: THE HOPPER ISN'T LOWERED AFTER A SHEET IS FED.
The tension spring is dislocated from the lifter driver gear (a crescent-
shaped gear). Mount it properly (See Chapter 4).
PROBLEM: THE "PAPER OUT (STANDARD OR LOWER TRAY)" LED
WON'T TURN OFF.
1. Remove the paper cassette and make sure the paper left quantity
sensor actuator (a pole with a roller attached) is working properly. If it
is dislocated, position it correctly. (See Chapter 4.)
2. Check that CN6 (standard tray) and CN9 (lower tray) on the C228 DRV
board are securely connected.
3. Check that all connectors connecting the paper cassette to the printer
are securely connected.
4. The C228 DRV board may not be properly detecting the cassette
status. Replace it.
5. The main board may be defective. Replace it.
PROBLEM: THE "PAPER OUT (MANUAL FEED)" LED WON'T TURN
OFF.
1. Try pushing the sheet further into the manual feed hopper until it trips
the P sensor.
Note: Only certain paper types and settings are supported with manual
feeding. See the User's Guide for details.
2. Make sure the P sensor isn't disconnected or damaged.
3. Check that CN4 on the C228 DRV board is securely connected.
4. The C228 DRV board may not be detecting the signal from the P
sensor. Replace it.
5. The main board may be defective. Replace it.
PROBLEM: LEDS INDICATE "PAPER JAM".
1. Make sure the rear cover is securely closed.
2. The following sensors help the printer determine when a paper jam
error occurs. Make sure they are not blocked or defective:

P sensor
Paper End sensor

Paper Registration sensor
Encoder Pulse Sensor

The printer monitors these sensors and determines if any paper or
debris is remaining.
3. Check that the following connectors on the C228 DRV board are
connected securely: CN4 (P sensor), CN7 (PE and PR sensors), CN12
(Encoder Pulse Sensor).
4. The C228 DRV board may not be detecting the signals from the
sensors. Replace it.
5. The main board may be defective. Replace it.
PROBLEM: INK OUT LEDS STAY ON OR CONTINUE BLINKING WHEN
THERE'S PLENTY OF INK LEFT IN THE CARTRIDGE(S).
1. Make sure the ink out sensors are working properly.
2. Check that the following connectors on the C228 DRV board are
properly connected: CN23(Bk), CN22(Y), CN20(Mm), CN21(Cc).
3. The C228 DRV board may not be detecting the signals from the
sensors. Replace it.
4. The main board may be defective. Replace it.
