Setting a 3480-type File Protect Selector to Read-Only
You can set the file protect selector so that the cartridge is read-only (nothing can be
written on the tape). Turn the thumb wheel on the side of the cartridge until the white
dot or white padlock icon on a dark background appears on the wheel
this position, the transport can only read data from the tape and cannot write data.
Setting a 3480-type File Protect Selector to Read/Write
You can set the file protect selector so that the cartridge is write-enabled. Turn the thumb
wheel on the side of the cartridge until the white dot or white padlock icon above the
wheel disappears
This setting is recommended when you enter cartridges into the LSM.
Note: Some software has a feature called "virtual thumb wheel" that allows read-only
