Removing and replacing structural parts

This section provides information for removing and replacing structural parts in
the server.
Replacement of structural parts is your responsibility. If IBM installs a structural
part at your request, you will be charged for the installation.
The illustrations in this document might differ slightly from your hardware.

Removing the side cover

Use this information to remove the side cover.
Attention: Operating the server for more than 30 minutes with the side cover
removed might damage server components. For proper cooling and airflow, install
the side cover before you turn on the server.
For 4U server models with non-hot-swap power supplies, complete the following
steps to remove the side cover. For the 5U server model with hot-swap power
supplies, please see the next sub-section.
1. Read the safety information in "Safety" on page vii and "Installation
2. Turn off the server and peripheral devices and disconnect the power cords and
