Cooling system (full speed – normal speed)
Craft interface
PIC —Generalized typical value
PIC (Type 3)—Generalized maximum value
PIC (Type 4)—Generalized maximum value
Example of calculating typical power consumption for minimum configuration:
Base System + 1 FPC3 + 1 PIC =
954 W + 384 W + 35 W= 2193 W
Example of calculating typical power consumption for maximum configuration:
Base System +8 Enhanced Scaling FPC3 + 1 Host subsystem + 1 SCG + 32 PICs + fan
tray (full speed – normal speed) =
954 W + 8 (514 W) + 147 W + 11 W + 32 (68 W) + 864 W =
954 W + 4112 W + 147 W + 11 W + 2176 W + 864 W = 8264 W
Example of calculating system thermal output:
Watts DC/0.293 = BTU/hr
8264/0.293 = 28,205 BTU/hr

Most sites distribute power through a main conduit that leads to frame-mounted power
distribution panels, one of which can be located at the top of the rack that houses the
router. An AC power cord connects each power supply to the power distribution panel.
