Overview

Tunable Source Operation
This chapter describes the procedure for using the HP 70428A Option 002
Microwave Source (Tunable Source) as the reference source for microwave
phase noise measurements.
The following is a list of considerations for using the HP 70428A Option
002 in any application:
•
Power accuracy: Measure output power with a power meter if accuracy
is important. The HP 70428A Option 002's output power is nominally
set but is not calibrated.
•
Harmonics: Use a low-pass filter at the HP 70428A Option 002's output
if the application requires that harmonics be lower than –10 dBc.
•
Broadband noise-floor: Use a bandpass filter at the
HP 70428A Option 002's output if the application requires extremely
low noise at offsets greater than 100 MHz.
