HP 7042XA error
reporting
HP 70427A front panel controls to do downconvert a 10 GHz signal are
10
Freqs INPUT FREQ
DC:FREQ:INP 10GHZ
Using semicolons for multiple commands
Multiple commands can be used in one program line by separating the
commands with a semicolon (;). The semicolon tells the HP 7042XA to back
up one level of hierarchy and accept the next command at the same level as
the previous command. For example, to set the HP 70428A to 2.4 GHz at
+10 dBm on one command line, the command would be:
SRC:OUT:FREQ 2.4GHZ;POW 10DBM
A semicolon followed by a colon (;:) tells the HP 7042XA that the next
command is at the top level of the command hierarchy. The example below
sets the HP 7042XA to downconvert a 2.4 GHz signal with it's input
attenuator and IF amplifier autoranged.
DC:FREQ:INP 2.4GHZ;:DC:AMPL:AUTO
Using question marks to query
The question mark (?) is used to query (read-back) an instrument setting or
measured value, and is entered immediately after a command. Queried
information must be read into a variable before it can be displayed, printed,
or used as a numeric value in a program.
Queried information is returned in the same format used to set the value (a
queried numeric entry function returns numeric data; quoted string functions
return quoted string information). To return an HP 7042XA's manufacturer,
instrument type, serial number and firmware date code, the commands in
BASIC would be:
OUTPUT 728;"*IDN?"
ENTER 727;Id$
PRINT Id$
The types of errors reported are generally the same errors encountered using
manual control. These include problems with the HP 7042XA hardware and
executing or attempting to execute an improper command.
The corresponding HP-IB command is:
GHz.
