Preprovisioning a Port
Before a port can be configured, the slot must be preprovisoned with an allowed card type and the
MDA must be preprovisioned with an allowed MDA type.

Ethernet
Configure an access port for customer facing traffic on which services are configured.
An encapsulation type may be specified in order to distinguish services on the port or
channel. Encapsulation types are not required for network ports.

SONET/SDH can be used only when configuring an OC-3, OC-12 and OC-48
SONET paths on an appropriate MDA.

Configure a network port or channel to participate in the service provider transport or
infrastructure network.
Accounting policies can only be associated with network ports/channels and Service
Access Ports (SAPs). Accounting policies are configured in the config>log>
accounting-policy context.

Channelized ports can only be configured on channel-capable MDAs such as the
