"Optimizing Swept Signal Generator Performance" in Chapter I
AM/FM OUTPUT (Option 002 only) Outputs the internally-
generated AM or FM waveform. This output can drive 50 R
or greater. When driving 100 R or less, a selftest error may be
generated. The AM output is scaled the same as it is generated,
either 100%/V or 10 dB/V. The FM scaling depends on the FM
deviation chosen. The following table shows the scale versus
deviation.
AM INPUT There are two AM operation modes: linear and log.
When the swept signal generator is in linear AM mode, the input
accepts a -1 to +l V signal. With an AM input of 0 V, the RF
output level (the reference level) is unaffected; at -1 V input, the RF
is shut off, and with a fl V input, the RF output is 100% (3 dB)
higher that the reference level. Therefore, there must be 23 dB of
margin between the reference power level and the maximum available
at a given frequency. The on (0 V input) to off (-1 V input) ratio is
a function of power level and frequency, but is always greater than
20 dB. The amplitude of the RF output changes linearly as the AM
input changes.
