Installing the GC interface

The GC interface can be heated to a temperature of 350 °C. It incorporates a
spring-loaded tip at the source end of the column transfer line. The tip ensures
that the interface remains in contact with the outer source block (to maintain
reagent gas pressure for CI operation) and accommodates thermal expansion
of the transfer line.

Determining the transfer line position

The end of the transfer line must be in the correct position relative to the
outer source when fitting the GC interface. If the GC interface is not fitted and
the transfer line position not determined. See

If the GC interface has previously been installed and the transfer line position
determined, follows the procedure described in
interface on page
Installing the GC interface
To install the GC interface:
1.
In the Tune window, click

Click Vacuum > Vent Source.

Click OK.
The turbomolecular pump is turned off. When the turbomolecular pump
runs down to half normal operating speed, the vent valve opens and the
instrument is automatically vented.

Wait for the Vacuum LED on the instrument's front panel to display
yellow or red.
5.
Use a 4-mm hex (Allen) key to unscrew the two retaining screws
securing the blanking plate to the source housing.
