Excessive leakage current (in FI source): (Continued)
Possible cause
Leakage between the extraction rods
and the emitter.
Poor sensitivity for reference material (in FI source):
Possible cause
Emitter is not intact.
Reference reservoir tube has been
bent so that it no longer points at
the emitter.
Poor GC sensitivity (in FI source):
Possible cause
The source end of the column is not
cleanly cut.
Column position not lined up with
the emitter.
Corrective action
Withdraw the emitter by 5 to 10 mm
from the extraction rods.
Remove the ion source, and clean
the extraction rods.
