Any N etwork M anagement S ystem ( NMS) r unning t he S imple N etwork M anagement P rotocol ( SNMP)
can manage the Managed devices equipped with SNMP agent, provided that the Management
Information B ase ( MIB) i s i nstalled c orrectly o n t he m anaged d evices. S NMP i s a p rotocol t hat i s u sed
to govern the transfer of information between SNMP manager and agent and traverses the Object
Identity (OID) of the management Information Base (MIB), described in the form of SMI syntax. An
SNMP a gent i s r unning o n t he s witch t o r espond t o t he r equest i ssued b y t he S NMP m anager.
Basically, i t i s p assive, e xcept f or i ssuing t he t rap i nformation. T he s witch s upports a s witch t o t urn o n
or off the SNMP agent. If you set the field SNMP to "Enable," the SNMP agent will start up. All
supported MIB OIDs, including RMON MIB, can be accessed via SNMP manager. If the field SNMP is
set t o " Disable," t he S NMP a gent w ill b e d eactivated, a nd t he r elated C ommunity N ame, T rap H ost I P

2-­‐5.1.7.1 S ystem
This section describes how to configure SNMP System on the switch. This function is used to
configure SNMP settings, community name, trap host and public traps as well as the throttle of
SNMP. A S NMP m anager m ust p ass t he a uthentication b y i dentifying b oth c ommunity n ames, t hen i t
can access the MIB information of the target device. So, both parties must have the same
community n ame. O nce c ompleting t he s etting, c lick < Apply> b utton, t he s etting t akes e ffect.

1. Click S NMP, S ystem.
2. Evoke S NMP S tate t o e nable o r d isable t he S NMP f unction.
3. Specify t he E ngine I D
4. Click A pply.
