UPnP is an acronym for Universal Plug and Play. The goals of UPnP are to allow devices to connect
seamlessly and to simplify the implementation of networks in the home (data sharing,
communications, and entertainment) and in corporate environments for simplified installation of
computer c omponents.



Advertising D uration:

The d uration, c arried i n S SDP p ackets, i s u sed t o i nform a c ontrol p oint o r c ontrol p oints h ow o ften
it or they should receive an SSDP advertisement message from this switch. If a control point does
not r eceive a ny m essage w ithin t he d uration, i t w ill t hink t hat t he s witch n o l onger e xists. B ecause
of the unreliable nature of UDP, in the standard it is recommended that refreshing of
advertisements be done at less than one-­‐half of the advertising duration. In the implementation,
the switch sends SSDP messages periodically at the interval one-­‐half of the advertising duration
minus 3 0 s econds. V alid v alues a re i n t he r ange 1 00 t o 8 6400.
