The
section
describes
how
to
set
IGMP
Port
Group
Filtering.
With
the
IGMP
filtering
feature,
a
user
can
exert
this
type
of
control.
In
some
network
Application
environments,
for
example,
in
metropolitan
o r
m ultiple-‐dwelling
u nit
( MDU)
i nstallations,
a
u ser
m ight
w ant
t o
c ontrol
t he
m ulticast
groups
to
which
a
user
on
a
switch
port
can
belong.
It
allows
the
user
to
control
the
distribution
of
multicast
s ervices,
s uch
a s
I P/TV,
b ased
o n
s ome
t ype
o f
s ubscription
o r
s ervice
p lan.
With
t his
f eature,
y ou
c an
f ilter
multicast
j oins
o n
a
p er-‐port
b asis
b y
c onfiguring
I P
m ulticast
p rofiles
and
a ssociating
t hem
w ith
i ndividual
s witch
p orts.
A n
I GMP
p rofile
c an
c ontain
o ne
o r
m ore
m ulticast
groups
and
specifies
whether
access
to
the
group
is
permitted
or
denied.
If
an
IGMP
profile
denying
access
t o
a
m ulticast
g roup
i s
a pplied
t o
a
s witch
p ort,
t he
I GMP
j oin
r eport
r equesting
t he
s tream
o f
IP
multicast
traffic
is
dropped,
and
the
port
is
not
allowed
to
receive
IP
multicast
traffic
from
that
group.
If
the
filtering
action
permits
access
to
the
multicast
group,
the
IGMP
report
from
the
port
is
forwarded
f or
n ormal
p rocessing.
IGMP
filtering
controls
only
IGMP
membership
join
reports
and
has
no
relationship
to
the
function
that
d irects
t he
f orwarding
o f
I P
m ulticast
t raffic.
