About Collections

PA interacts with the arrays through hosts that have the operating system specific PA host agents
installed. These hosts form the channel of communication between PA and the arrays. Once the host
agents are installed, the corresponding records automatically appear in the Host Information pane in the
Collections screen. To create and assign command devices to host agents, refer the HPE XP7
Performance Advisor Software Installation Guide.
Once the command devices are configured on the array, and assigned it to the host agent for the array,
the corresponding command device details appear in the Config and Performance Collection table in
the Collections screen. You can request for a host information update every time you modify the
configuration of the host agent or the associated array. You can remove records of the host agents that
are no longer connected to the management station.
After the host agents are discovered, start the configuration data collection, followed by the performance
data collection for an array using its corresponding command device. Ensure you have saved and
registered the SVP credentials before issuing configuration collection. The configuration data collection
can be a one-time activity or scheduled periodically on a daily, weekly, or a monthly basis. During a
scheduled configuration data collection, the data pertaining to the new components are automatically
included in the latest configuration data.
During a one-time configuration data collection, the data on new components cannot be collected after
the configuration collection is complete. You must perform another one-time configuration data collection
to receive the updated configuration data.
To view the configuration summary details of the arrays, navigate to Summary View > Array Summary.
