About Ports

The Ports component type comprises of frontend ports that are configured on XP and XP7 disk arrays.
PA monitors the historical data collected, and flags the arrays as critical when one or more ports metrics
cross the threshold level in the Overview dashboard. The Ports component status is based on the
threshold values set for the Average Frontend IOPS and the Average Frontend MBPS metrics.
You can access the Ports screen for an array using the main menu, or drill down from the Component
widget in the Overview dashboard by clicking on the critical icon in the Port IO or Port Throughput
donuts. This redirects you to the Component dashboard with the critical array sorted on top of the master
pane.
To identify the critical ports of the selected array, click the critical icon in the Frontend section in the detail
pane. The Top 10 Port By IO and the Top 10 Port By Throughput graph titles depict the top 10
consumers of the port component by IO and throughput respectively. In the Ports screen, select the
critical ports that are sorted on top of the master pane. Press and hold down the Ctrl key to plot historical
data for multiple components.
View the data plotted for the Average Port IO - Frontend and the Average Port MB Frontend metrics. If
the data points for the two metrics have crossed the threshold at least once, then the array and the
component is flagged as critical, and hence requires your immediate attention.
You can also monitor the behavior of the associated components that are LDEVs and Host groups. You
can also monitor real-time data, plot trend values for all the charts, and plot forecast lines for critical
metrics to predict behavior within a specified time frame. The default threshold duration is 6 hours.
Use the Template feature for frequent monitoring of performance metrics, and foresee performance
bottlenecks in advance. Templates can provide an at-a-glance information on the behavior of critical
components and metrics.
