IMPORTANT:
For a component type, the metrics are displayed for selection only if the corresponding
components are supported or configured in an array.
For example, if the configuration collection is not yet performed for an array, the dashboard and
the component level of screens may not display any data. For virtual volumes like the ThP and
the snapshot pools, the respective component type is displayed if the selected array supports
that particular component configuration.
All the metrics added to the chart work area are automatically plotted in different chart windows.
In the Summary View, you can view the latest data points in tabular format as well as plot the
historical graphs for those metrics listed in the table.

The metrics may display transient peaks beyond the average performance. Sizing to these peaks can
lead to enormous bandwidth provisioning and cost. Percentiles are an effective way to exclude the impact
of these transient spikes in the calculation of the bandwidth requirements. To estimate the required
bandwidth and other parameters for metrics, you can view percentile values for the respective metrics in
the Chart View pane.
Percentile is symmetrical to percentage. Percentage measures the 'how many' in the whole. Percentiles
in a chart indicates the percentage of data points that are above and below a given value.
For instance, if the 50th percentile value for the Maximum Port MB-Frontend metric for a Port component
displays a value of 348, this indicates that 50% of data points are above 348, and 50% are below 348.
Similarly, if the 90th percentile value displays a value of 354, it indicates that 90% of the data points are
below 354. In addition to providing data pertaining to the maximum MBs through that port, PA also
displays the 50th, 90th and 95th percentile values based on the performance data over a given duration
for the port component.
NOTE: The graphs show the performance data for the last one hour. If there is no performance data
for the selected component/feature during the last one hour or the average read, and write values
are zero, the 50th, 90th and 95th percentile values are not displayed.
Viewing the 50th, 90th and 95th percentile values for metrics
1. From the HPE XP7 Performance Advisor main menu, navigate to the component or the feature
screen, as required. For example, from the main menu, navigate to the Ports screen.
2. From the Array list, select an array, and then select a required component from the master pane. The
corresponding performance graph is displayed in the Chart View pane.
3. To view the 50th, 90th and 95th percentile values of a metric, navigate to the graph and hover over it.
The values are displayed in the chart as a tool tip.
Prerequisites
The configuration and the performance data collection for the selected array is complete.

About Real-time monitoring

PA does real-time monitoring of the XP/XP7 disk arrays, where performance data is collected for intervals
as low as few seconds (approximately, 10 seconds per component). The real-time data is collected
through the following PA host agents that support the real-time performance data collection:
