About RAID Groups

The RAID Groups component type comprises of the individual RAID Groups that are configured on XP
and XP7 disk arrays. The main menu is the primary navigation to access the RAID Groups component
screen. The Component widget in the Overview dashboard provides at-a-glance status of the RG
Utilization for all the arrays that PA monitors. To view the metrics that determine the status of RG
Utilization, hover over Status. It displays as Status is computed based on Backend RG
Sequential Reads, Backend RG Nonsequential Reads, Backend RG Writes, Backend
RG Util. The bar chart below provides the average and maximum RAID Group utilization details for
each array. Clicking on any of the bars will redirect you to the RAID Groups screen. You can also click on
the critical status to display the Component dashboard with a list of critical arrays listed on top of the
master pane. Click the critical icon in the Backend section to navigate to the RAID Groups screen. You
can also click on the graph titles Top 10 Internal RG By Avg Utilization and Top 10 Internal RG By
Max Utilization to view the top 10 RG consumers by average and maximum utilization respectively. Click
an individual bar in the graph to filter and display only that RAID Group. In the RAID Group screen,
monitor the utilization data of the metrics, and see if any of the metrics that determines the status of RG
component has crossed threshold value. If one of the metrics has crossed the threshold value at least
once during the threshold duration, then that array is flagged as critical in the Overview dashboard along
with the component. The default threshold duration is 6 hours.
To eliminate performance issues in advance, templates can provide an at-a-glance information on the
behavior of critical components and metrics. You can also monitor real-time data, plot trend values for all
the charts, and plot forecast lines for critical metrics to predict behavior within a specified time frame.
The associated array components for RAID Groups are cache and LDEVs. To view the caches and
LDEVs that are associated with a RAID Group, from the Actions menu, select the associated component
that you want to view.
You can filter RAID Group records by array type, status, RAID Group level, RAID Group Name, and Drive
Type.
Use the Template feature for frequent monitoring of performance metrics, and foresee performance
bottlenecks in advance. Templates can provide an at-a-glance information on the behavior of critical
components and metrics.
