About LDEVs

PA enables you to monitor the performance of LDEVs for XP and XP7 disk arrays. For example, if you are
dealing with high response time in an XP7 disk array, PA enables you to investigate the performance of its
LDEVs. You can access the LDEVs screen using the main menu or drill-down from the Performance
widget in the Overview dashboard. In the Performance widget, the following LDEV parameters are
displayed: LDEV Total Frontend IO, LDEV Total Frontend Throughput, and LDEV Response Time.
Monitor if any of the sections has arrays flagged as critical. You can hover over the Status of each LDEV
parameters to view the metrics that determines the health of the LDEVs of the array. For example, if the
LDEV Response Time section in the Overview dashboard has flagged certain arrays as critical, hover
over the Read Response Time status to see the metrics that determine the health of LDEVs. The tool tip
displays as Status is computed based on LDEV Avg read response time. Click on the
critical icon. The Performance Dashboard displays a list of arrays in critical status sorted on top of the
master pane. Select the array that you want to monitor. To identify the LDEVs experiencing slow response
time, navigate to the Top 10 LDEV By Max Response Time graph, and perform either of the following:
1. Click an individual bar in the graph depicting a critical LDEV. The height of each bar represents the
value.
The Ldevs screen is filtered to display only the LDEV that you selected from the bar chart.
2. Click on the graph title Top 10 LDEV By Max Response Time.
The Ldevs screen is displayed listing the top 10 LDEVs on top of the master pane.
3. Select a critical LDEV, and navigate to the Average Read Response metric in the detail pane. Monitor
if the values are more than the set threshold level. If the data points have exceeded above the set
threshold value, then this requires your immediate attention. You can create a template and add the
metric to it for frequent monitoring of data.
NOTE: For effective monitoring, you can also append the IOPS and MBPS metrics to the
template.
4. To check if the associated components also have performance issues, navigate to the Actions menu,
and select the desired associated component. You can add metrics of associated components as well
as part of the template you created.
