About Host Groups

The Host Groups component type comprises of three main component types: Ports, RAID Groups, and
LDEVs. You can access the Host Groups screen using the main menu, or drill down from the
Performance dashboard by clicking on any of the following graph titles: Top 10 HG By IO, Top 10 HG
By Throughput, Top 10 HG By Avg Response Time, Top 10 HG By Max Response Time. The Host
Groups component status is based on the following corresponding metrics: Host Groups IOPS, Host
Groups MBPS, Host Groups Average Read Response Time, and Host Groups Average Write Response
Time for the threshold values are set in the Threshold Settings screen. You can also hover over the
individual bars in the graphs in the Performance dashboard for more information. To filter and view any
one of the top 10 HGs consumers, click on the individual bar, as required.
Click on a host group from the master pane, and navigate to the Actions menu to view the Ports and the
Ldevs that are associated with the selected host group.
Click Ports to view the individual ports associated with the host group.
Click Ldev to view the LDEVs that are associated with an individual host group. By default, the master
pane displays all LDEV types such as THP, SNAP, CA/CAJ, JNL Volumes, and BC. If you want to view
only THP LDEVs, then from the Ldev Types list in the filter pane, select THP, and click Apply. The RG
column displays the individual Raid Group associated with the LDEVs. If you have selected a pool LDEV
(THP), the RG name displays as the LDEV type as THP along with the pool ID. For example, THP-
PID(99).
Use the Actions menu if you want to further monitor the components that are associated with the
selected one or more LDEVs. For example, if you want to monitor the pool utilization of a THP LDEV,
from Actions > Pool, in the detail pane you can view the Pool Utilization chart.
In the above mentioned selections, the LDEVs are displayed in the descending order, where the
maximum utilized LDEV is displayed first followed by the subsequent, and least utilized LDEVs. You can
also monitor real-time data, plot trend values for all the charts, and plot forecast lines for critical metrics to
predict behavior within a specified time frame. The default time duration is 6 hours.
NOTE: The ports and LDEVs can be associated with multiple hosts in a host group.
Use the Template feature for frequent monitoring of performance metrics, and foresee performance
bottlenecks in advance. Templates can provide an at-a-glance information on the behavior of critical
components and metrics.
