Configure SNMP settings

In the event of a failure or an abnormal issue detected in a storage system, the SNMP Agent can report
the condition using a trap message. PA provides two destinations that you can configure for receiving
such alarms notifications — email destination and SNMP destination.
Procedure
1. From the HPE XP7 Performance Advisor main menu, navigate to PA Settings > Email Settings,
and click Edit.
2. Scroll down to the SNMP Settings section, and in IP Address / Hostname, provide the IP address of
the SNMP server that will be used for processing emails.
3. In SNMP Community Name, provide the community name. The purpose of specifying an SNMP
community name is to separate emails that belong to a particular group (community). You can specify
only two community names: Public (default) or Private.
4. To validate the SNMP server settings, click Test SNMP. If the SNMP server address entered is valid,
the following message is displayed:
Trap dispatched to the SNMP server
If the SNMP server address entered is invalid or the SNMP server is not accessible, the following
message is displayed:
Trap not dispatched. It might be due to invalid IP address or server name,
or the SNMP server is not accessible.
5. Click Save.
The settings are updated in the serverparameters.properties file. If you click Cancel, the
previous specified values are retained in the serverparameters.properties file.

Configure PA Monitor Settings

Prerequisites
You must configure the SMTP parameters for the PA Monitor Settings service to dispatch notifications
to the intended recipients.
A valid destination email address must be specified.
Performance Advisor Management Station Monitor service periodically monitors the PA Management
Station Tomcat service, and dispatches appropriate email notifications to the specified email address
that provides the status of the service. Ensure that the SMTP settings are configured to receive email
notifications on the status of Tomcat and database services.
Procedure
1. From the HPE XP7 Performance Advisor main menu, navigate to PA Settings, and in the Email
Settings pane, click Edit.
2. In Email Address, type a valid destination email address.
3. In Email Subject, provide an appropriate subject line. For example, PA MS Service Failure
Notification.
