Removing the 3U chassis hard disk drive backplane

To remove the 3U chassis hard disk drive backplane, complete the following steps.

1. Read the safety information that begins on page vii and "Installation guidelines"
on page 123.
2. If the 3U chassis is installed in an iDataPlex rack, remove it (see "Removing a
3U chassis from a Type 7825 iDataPlex rack" on page 190).
3. Remove the top cover (see "Removing the 3U chassis top cover" on page
136).
4. Remove the storage-riser-card assembly and ServeRAID SAS controller (see
"Removing a storage-riser-card assembly, ServeRAID SAS controller, and
battery cable interposer card from a 3U chassis" on page 181).
5. Remove the fan assembly (see "Removing the 3U chassis fan assembly" on
page 149).
6. Partially remove the system-board tray to disengage the power-supply
connector at the rear of the system-board tray (see "Removing the
system-board tray from a 3U chassis" on page 128).
7. Pull the hard disk drives out of the server slightly to disengage them from the
hard disk drive backplane (see "Removing and installing a hard disk drive" on
page 139).
8. Remove the power-supply paddle card and the power supply (see "Removing
a power supply from a 3U chassis" on page 174).
9. Disconnect the cables from the hard disk drive backplane, remove the 10
screws, and remove the hard disk drive backplane from the 3U chassis.
