Types of Certificate

A certificate is required to use the Encryption feature on the machine.
The following 2 types of device certificates can be used.
Self-signed certificates created using CentreWare Internet Services
Certificate signed by a certificate authority (CA)

For more information on how to import a certificate, refer to the help of CentreWare Internet Services.
The following device certificates are available depending on types of certificate.
Encrypting HTTP communication from a computer to
this machine (SSL/TLS server)
Encrypting HTTP communications from the machine to
a remote server (SSL/TLS client)
Encrypting using IPsec

About Encryption

Encrypting HTTP communication from a computer to this machine (SSL/
TLS server)
Enabling the SSL/TLS communication feature of the machine makes it possible to encrypt HTTP communication
between the machine and computers over a network.
To encrypt communication, use either a self-signed certificate or a certificate signed by a certificate authority (CA)
for the device certificate.
Note
Encrypting HTTP communication makes it possible to encrypt communication data (SSL encrypted communication)
when printing with the IPP port.
Encrypting HTTP communications from this machine to an external
server (SSL/TLS client)
The SSL/TLS protocol is used for encryption of HTTP communications between an external server and this device.
Generally, it is not necessary to configure a certificate, but a certificate signed by a certificate authority (CA) can be
used in the case of settings for which the external server requires SSL client certification.
In addition, to turn on verification of server certificates and verify SSL/TLS server certificates of external servers, you
must use CentreWare Internet Services to import into this machine a certificate of the top certificate authority
included in this certification path.
