How to Do an HDR OTDR Test

Figure 166 shows the equipment for HDR OTDR tests.
Make sure that the home screen shows the correct settings for

the job.
Set up the launch compensation function if necessary. See

"About Launch and Tail Cords for OSP Links" on page 416.
Clean and inspect the connectors on the launch and tail cords

and the fiber to be tested.
Connect the tester to the link as shown in the Figures:

Figure 167 shows the connections for PON OTDR tests on

OSP links where you typically do not use launch or tail
cords.
Figure 168 shows connections that include launch and tail

cords.
Figure 169 shows connections to do a test on a complete,

as-built PON network.
Tap TEST or press .

If the tester does not find the end of the fiber,
connect an APC/UPC tail cord or a patch cord to
the APC connector to cause a large reflection at
the end of the fiber.
The tester shows a warning if there is an optical
signal on the fiber.
