knob button is pressed at
P range.

8) With selector lever set at P range, turn ignition key to "ACC"
position and then check for following conditions.
D With knob button released, ignition key can be turned from
"ACC" position to "LOCK" position.
D With knob button pressed, ignition key cannot be turned
from "ACC" position to "LOCK" position.
9) Install steering column. (If vehicle is equipped with air bag sys-
tem, refer to Section 3C1, and if not equipped, refer to Section
3C.)
10) Install steering column hole cover and steering joint cover.
11) If vehicle is equipped with air bag system, connect negative
cable at battery and enable air bag system, referring to "ENAB-
LING AIR BAG SYSTEM" in Section 9J.
STOP LAMP SWITCH
REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
1) Remove negative battery cable from battery.
2) Remove steering joint cover to gain access to stop lamp switch.
3) Disconnect stop lamp switch electrical connector.
4) Remove stop lamp switch from pedal bracket.
5) To install stop lamp switch, reverse removal procedure.
ADJUSTMENT
Adjustment should be made as follows when installing stop lamp
switch.
Pull up brake pedal toward you and while holding it there, adjust
switch position so that clearance between the end of thread and
brake pedal contact plate (shown as "a" in left figure) is within spe-
cified clearance. Then tighten lock nut to the specified torque.
Clearance "a": 1.5 – 2.0 mm (0.06 – 0.08 in.)
Tightening Torque
(a): 13 N·m (1.3 kg-m, 9.0 lb-ft)
