Using the NI-CUD-E Motorized Universal Condenser (Dry)

9.2
NI-CUD-E is a dry type motorized universal condenser that supports various microscopy methods.
■ Optical module
The turret of the universal condenser has one empty hole and six holes for attaching optical modules. The hole at
address 1 is empty and no optical module can be attached here. Attach the following optical modules at addresses 2 to
7. (See Chapter 1, "3 Assembly Method - 18 Attach the condenser - ■ Attaching the optical module to the universal
condenser" in the "Assembly/Maintenance" instruction manual.)
 DIC module (required for differential interference contrast microscopy)
DIC module includes [D-C DIC N1 DRY], [D-C DIC N2 DRY], and [D-C DIC NR DRY].
Select the DIC module appropriate for the microscopy method and objective. If the combination is not correct,
differential interference contrast image cannot be obtained or contrast may decrease significantly. Depending on the
purpose of observation, dedicated modules for higher contrast or resolution are available. Note, however, that in
principle the contrast contradicts the resolution of differential interference contrast image (the higher the contrast,
the lower the resolution). (See the table in Chapter 1, "3 Assembly Method - 18 Attach the condenser -
Combinations of the DIC Slider on the Objective and the DIC Module on the Condenser (when NI-CUD-E/NI-CUD
universal condenser is used)" in the "Assembly / Maintenance" instruction manual.)
 PH module (required for phase contrast microscopy)
PH module includes [D-C PH-1], [D-C PH-2], and [D-C PH-3].
Select the PH module with the same PH code as the one indicated on the PH objective.
 Dark-field module (required for dark-field microscopy)
The dark-field module [D-C DF] can be used with any objective with NA (numerical aperture) of 0.7 or less. Note,
however, that 2x and 4x objectives are not supported.
 2-4x auxiliary lens (required for low magnification bright-field microscopy)
2x and 4x objectives for universal condenser can only be used for bright-field microscopy. In this case, select a 2-4x
auxiliary lens.
Two types of 2-4x auxiliary lens, [NI-CAL N1] and [D-C 2-4x] are available with different diameter and different
condenser turret attachment address.
■ Switching the optical module (switching the turret)
Press FUNCTION button 1 or 2 on the Ni-E microscope main
body to rotate the turret counterclockwise or clockwise and
change the turret address one by one. An optical module
indicated on the display panel on the front of the Ni-E
microscope is brought into the optical path.

Interlocking of the condenser turret switchover
The condenser turret switchover can be interlocked when
switching objectives. See "19.2 Interlocking Function" for
the interlocking conditions and the interlocked operations.
■ Aperture diaphragm
A condenser is equipped with an aperture diaphragm to adjust the illumination angular aperture.
Operating the DIA aperture diaphragm button of the NI-E microscope changes the diameter of the aperture diaphragm
from 2.0 mm to 30.6 mm. Press the left side ( mark) of the DIA aperture diaphragm button to open the diaphragm,
and the right side ( mark) to close the diaphragm. (See "8 Adjusting the Aperture Diaphragm".)
