Turn on the mercury lamp.
See your illuminator's manual for details.

To observe under a different magnification
Press the OBJ CW/CCW button to bring the objective
with the desired magnification into the optical path.
Pressing the OBJ CW button turns the nosepiece by one
address in the clockwise direction (as viewed from
above), while the OBJ CCW button turns the nosepiece
in the counterclockwise direction.
Oil immersion
When using an oil immersion type objective, apply Nikon
specified non-fluorescence immersion oil between the
specimen and the objective. (See Chapter 3 "14
Oil/Water Immersion".)
Motorized nosepiece toggling
Two objectives can be alternated by specifying an
objective pair. Objectives can be switched using the
[OBJ CW/CCW] button on the microscope. (See
Chapter 3 "11.1 Motorized Nosepiece Operation".)
