1. Check the fuser unit.
a. Remove the fuser unit. Determine if the flash guard on the fuser is
bent and touching the transport unit.
b. Reinstall the fuser unit. With the printer powered down, measure the
resistance from the fuser to the transport unit. Resistance should be
about 1 M
.
2. Verify the surface voltage setting in the configuration menu. Through the
printer control panel, select the Printer Control menu, Surface Volts
option. Ensure that the surface voltage setting is "580".
3. Check the quality of the print image.
Troubleshoot per the section "Print Quality" on page I–179. If the error
persists after following the print quality troubleshooting procedures, go to
step 4.
4. Check the main charger.
a. If the main charger is dirty, clean it. If the error persists, go to step 4b.
b. Replace the main charger. If the error persists, go to step 5.
5. Check the high-voltage power supply.
a. Put the positive lead of an ammeter (3 mA range) on the +HV1
terminal of the high-voltage power supply, and the negative lead on
the main charger connector.
b. Measure the current when Error 1A occurs. The current should be
about 1000 µA. If the current is not normal, replace the high-voltage
power supply.
c. Check the harness continuity between connector CN13 on the MC
board and connector HV-CN1 on the high-voltage power supply. If the
harness is OK, replace the high-voltage power supply. If the error
persists after replacing the high-voltage power supply, go to step 6.
6. Check the drum surface potential sensor (DSPS).
Check the continuity of the harness from connector CN15 on the MC
board to JM15101 on the DSPS board. If the continuity is OK, replace the
DSPS. If the error persists after replacing the DSPS, go to step 7.
