Default is n K Bytes,
where n varies,
depending on the
amount of RAM
installed.
Minimum value is 0.
Maximum value
varies depending
on amount of
installed RAM.
The Global Memory Adjust option allows you to adjust how the printer
allocates its RAM between global working memory and page memory. The
available range for the adjustment depends on the amount of RAM memory
installed on the controller board.
To make your newly-selected Global Memory Adjust value take effect, you
must power the printer down and back up. Once a new Global Memory Adjust
value is in effect, it will remain in effect until it is changed again, or until the
amount of installed RAM is changed.
The printer uses the global working memory area to store fonts and forms. It
uses the page memory area to store the image of the page being built, as well
as to store pages already printed that might be needed for reprint.
There is a default setting for each amount of installed RAM memory. Each
time the printer is powered up, it checks whether the amount of installed RAM
has changed since the last powerup. If the amount of installed RAM has
changed, the printer automatically sets the new default value for that amount
of RAM. This value remains in effect until the amount of RAM changes again,
or until a user changes the setting of the Global Memory Adjust option. For
most applications, the best setting is the default setting.
There is a tradeoff between the amount of global memory and the amount of
page memory:
Increasing the amount of global memory takes memory away from page
memory, and adds it to global working memory. This choice might be useful
for applications that switch among many fonts or many resident forms.
Decreasing the amount of global memory takes memory away from global
working memory, and adds it to page memory. This choice might prevent an
application with unusually long pages from reducing printer throughput.
