Controller Module

Controller Module
The controller module consists of the following subassemblies:

Controller board

Power supply
Cooling fan
In addition, the controller board contains socketed terminating resistors for the
parallel interface. The values of these resistors might need to be changed for
some parallel interface applications.
Removal and replacement procedures for each of these items are given in the
following pages.

Removal
CAUTION
To prevent electrostatic damage to electronic components, always wear
a properly grounded static wrist strap when you handle circuit boards
and integrated circuits (ICs).
1. Make a configuration printout of all saved configurations. (Refer to the
User's Manual .)
2. Turn off the printer.
3. Disconnect the printer AC power cable from the power source.
4. Remove the printer left rear cover (page I–239).
5. Remove the screws (6) securing the I/O panel (with attached controller
board) to the front of the controller module. (See Figure I–12.)
6. Grasp the top and bottom of the I/O panel, then pull the I/O panel and
controller board out of the controller module. Set the I/O panel and
controller board assembly and the six screws on a properly grounded
anti-static surface.
7. Disconnect the ribbon cable connector from connector J15 on the
controller board.
8. Remove the screws (2) securing the parallel I/O connector (with attached
ribbon cable) to the I/O panel. Save the parts for reinstallation in the new
controller board.
