First Time Installation and Configuration
for the RealPresence Collaboration

Server Virtual Edition

This chapter describes how to install a RealPresence Collaboration Server 800s (MCU) instance on a
server, configuring the MCU and the default settings of the MCU that enable you to start using it immediately.
By default, when installing the MCU software, if a DHCP server is configured in your environment, the IP
addresses of various MCU entities are automatically identified by the DHCP server and assigned their IP
address. In the event that the DHCP is not part of your environment, you will need to assign the IP
addresses manually.
The first time installation and configuration consists of the following procedures:
1 Software Installation and Setup
 Installing the MCU software.
 Configuring the MCU.
2 Connecting to the MCU
 Register the RealPresence Collaboration Server
 Connect to the RealPresence Collaboration Server.
 Selecting the RealPresence Collaboration Server Web Client Languages

Software Installation

The MCU is installed using the VMware vSphere Client or VMware vCenter Client.

Manually Installing the MCU Using the VMware vSphere Client

Many of the configurations needed require detailed knowledge of VMware. It is highly recommended
that the CPU and RAM configurations be performed by the VMware administrator only.

Preparations

The MCU can be installed from the OVA file once the following procedures are completed:
● VMware vSphere Client is installed on the local workstation. For more details see the VMware
vSphere documentation.
● VMware vSphere Server is installed on a server.
● A login with sufficient permissions to install the OVA file is provided by the system administrator.
● The OVA file is downloaded from Polycom website.
