The PWRcell System
Section 1

Introduction

The Generac PWRcell system is an ecosystem of integrated products designed to enable any building to generate,
store, and consume its own clean energy.
The typical PWRcell system is comprised of the following components:

(A) Solar Panels
PWRcell supports standard 60, 72, and 96-cell DC
ungrounded solar modules arranged in a substring
format. Each substring typically contains 3–8 modules
(dependent on module specifications and local factors).
NOTE: Because of their electrical characteristics, 96-cell
solar modules are configured in a topology different than
60 and 72-cell solar modules. For more information, refer
to Parallel Substrings / PV Substring Design (Generac
Part No. A0000648465).
(B) PV Link
A non-isolated, interleaved DC-DC converter that boosts
PV input to a higher voltage and outputs it to REbus,
Generac's regulated DC bus. The PV Link provides
droop-mode power management, enabling multiple
optimizers to connect in parallel on REbus (See D).
NOTE: PV array input power is not exported to the
inverter until PV Link is enabled.
(C) PWRcell Battery
The energy storage component of the PWRcell system.
The battery, paired with PV energy as described in (B),
can be used to offset load demand during grid-tied
operation and provide backup power to local loads when
grid power is abnormal or unavailable.

Communications (PLC). No additional communication
wiring or equipment is required for communication
between a PWRcell inverter, PV Link, or PWRcell battery.
(E) PWRcell Inverter
The PWRcell Inverter is a bidirectional AC-DC power
converter that serves as the interface between REbus,
the building's AC loads, and the grid. Additionally, it
serves as the communication gateway for other REbus
devices.
(F) Grid
The PWRcell system can accept 240 VAC split-phase
power or 208 VAC three-phase power depending on
inverter model.
(G) Loads
The PWRcell system can help offset or eliminate grid
demands from loads when properly equipped.
