PWRcell CTs
Section 5

Device Profiles

Current transformers (CTs) are small transformers that
generate a current signal back to the inverter when
power is flowing through the wires they are clamped
around. CTs in a PWRcell system measure power flowing
on the service conductors of a home or business. The
inverter uses those measurements to determine when to
send or withhold power based on the system mode and
selected settings.

building's consumption data can be viewed locally on the
inverter screen or via the PWRview Mobile Application by
referencing the power pole icon and the associated
power flow values.

NOTE: CTs are NOT a factor in the ability of a PWRcell
system to provide backup power during a grid outage.

The diagnostics defined below detail inspections for
common scenarios. Reference and use in the order

1. CT Calibration
Press the right arrow key one time to go to the
inverter device page.
Use the center button to access the inverter menu.
Select 'Calibrate CTs' from the options shown and
select confirm.
Watch the screen closely for validation.
– If the message, 'CT cal success' displays on the
screen, CTs have been successfully calibrated.
– If the validation message is something other than
'CT cal success', see
CTs.

Return to the home screen and verify the power
pole icon is present with appropriate power flow
values.
NOTE: Upon energizing the inverter, with CTs properly
placed and wired, CTs will be automatically detected and
calibrated, however, it is recommended to always
calibrate manually.
2. Placement of CTs for Calibration
CT detection and calibration is triggered by the
inverter sending a small amount of power to its
point of interconnection with the grid.
Ensure CTs are installed upstream of the point of
interconnection between the inverter and the utility
grid.
– See
Figure
using a backfeed breaker in the main panel,
place CTs on the line side service conductors.
