Section 4 PWRcell Inverter
Island Overload
If too much load is applied to the PWRcell system during
a grid outage, the system will go into an overload fault to
protect itself. The inverter will attempt to reconnect on an
ever-increasing interval until the load is reduced. This
interval begins at one (1) minute and increases by 20
seconds on each subsequent attempt (1 minute 20
seconds, 1 minute 40 seconds, 2 minutes, 2 minutes 20
seconds...).
1. Turn Off Inverter Protected Loads Breaker/ reduce
house loads.
a. Inverter should return to 'islanded' state.
b. Turn off individual loads breakers in the backup
panel.
c. Verify that large loads, like motor loads (ex.
pumps, water heaters, etc), being backed up
have been turned off.
d. Turn on Protected Loads Breaker.
e. Turn on each individual loads breaker one-by-
one.
f.
If inverter will not return to 'islanded' state,
leave Protected Loads breaker OFF.
g. Disable inverter at the inverter device page.
h. Re-enable the inverter.
i.
Inverter should return to 'islanded' state.
j.
If trouble persists, call Generac PWRcell
Technical Support.
Island Overload (Alternate Procedure)
1. Turn off the 2-pole 40 A inverter AC backfeed
breaker or AC disconnect.
2. Reduce load at the Protected Loads panel either
by turning loads off in the home, or by turning
breakers in the Protected Loads panel off.
3. Turn on the inverter AC backfeed breaker or AC
disconnect.
4. Wait for five-minute time out.
5. Inverter should re-connect to the grid.
6. Restore Protected Loads.
Stuck in Waiting or Standby
1. AC Wiring
a. The inverter will go into a waiting state if it
cannot fully connect to the AC grid. This can
happen when voltage or frequency is outside
of connection and/or operating thresholds.
b. Determine whether grid power is present or
whether there has been an outage.
c. If grid power is present and the inverter does
not connect after five minutes, check all AC
connections for loose wiring.
18
d. Use a DMM to check for proper AC voltage
line-to-neutral and line-to-line.
NOTE: Split phase inverters must have true 240 Volt split
phase power. Installation of a split phase unit on two legs
of a three phase service (single phase 208V) will result in
perpetual waiting state.
e. Verify that the AC backfeed breaker is closed
in the ON position.
f.
If using a fused AC disconnect, verify that the
fuses are fully seated and that the disconnect
is closed in the ON position.
g. If Inverter remains in waiting state, call
Generac PWRcell Technical Support.
NOTE: After a grid outage, when grid power has
returned, the inverter monitors the AC voltage for five
minutes prior to reconnecting to the grid.
REbus Voltage Is Low
1. Check AC wiring
a. If only partial AC voltage is present, and all
other REbus devices are disabled, the inverter
will not be able to bring up REbus.
2. Check REbus devices
a. If the inverter is attempting to island without an
adequate source of DC power, the inverter will
not be able to bring up REbus. Potential DC
power sources include PWRcell batteries and
PV Links. Ensure these devices are not
disabled or disconnected.
3. Basic Function Test
a. If steps 1 and 2 do not resolve functionality,
perform the Basic Function Test.
b. If the inverter Power Core has experienced a
terminal fault, the inverter will not be able to
bring up REbus voltage.
c. If the Power Core passes the Basic Function
Test, repeat steps 1 and 2.
d. If the Power Core fails the Basic Function Test,
call Generac PWRcell Technical Support.
4. Check transfer switch settings and wiring.
a. If system is not installed with an automatic
transfer switch, confirm 'NumTranSwtchs' is
set to '0'.
b. If system is installed with an automatic transfer
switch, confirm all wiring to the transfer switch.
Stuck in Islanding
1. Check AC Wiring
a. If the inverter does not see AC voltage, and it
is set to island with a battery attached and
enabled, it will island.
