Section 14 Frequently Asked Questions
Warranty
Q: What's the average lifespan on a PWRcell Energy
Storage System?
A: There is not a time-dependent specified end of life on
the PWRcell Energy Storage System. The warranty
for the battery modules is 10 years or 7.56 MWh of
throughput per module. The battery cabinet and
inverter will also carry a 10-year warranty and the PV
Link and SnapRS products will carry a 25 year
warranty. The product may still be functional beyond
this point, but product life will vary based on use and
environmental conditions.
Regulatory
Q: Is a permit required to install the PWRcell
system?
A: Yes.
Q: Are SnapRS in-line disconnect devices required
on all PV systems?
A: SnapRS products are only required in jurisdictions
that require compliance with the 2017 and newer
editions of the NEC for rapid shutdown inside the PV
array boundary. The PV Link product is able to satisfy
string-level rapid shutdown compliance.
Maintenance
Q: What is the recommended maintenance for the
PWRcell Energy Storage System?
A: Recommended maintenance includes cleaning the
intake filters on the battery cabinet and inverter, and
inspection of system components. A full list of the
recommended maintenance items and schedule is
provided in the battery and inverter manuals.
Support
Q: Who should we contact for tech support?
A: Generac PWRcell Technical Support 1-855-635-
5186
Q: How do I register my PWRcell products?
A: PWRcell products can be registered at
pwrfleet.generac.com/
GENERAC (888-436-3722).
Technical Specs
Q: Is a transfer switch required to be installed with a
PWRcell Battery Energy Storage System?
A: The system can be installed with a protected loads
panel and has an internal transfer mechanism to
isolate from the utility in the event of a power outage,

no external transfer switch required. A transfer switch
is required when installing a whole home backup
solution.
Q: Does the system support PV operation when the
grid is off-line?
A: Yes, since the solar and battery are DC-coupled, the
system can isolate from the utility and continue to
provide power to a protected loads panel in the event
of a utility power outage.
Q: Is any rapid shutdown built in?
A: When paired with a suitable PV rapid shutdown
initiator, the PV Link achieves string-level rapid
shutdown requirements and the SnapRS product
achieves module-level rapid shutdown requirements.
NOTE: For Generac recommendations for PV rapid
shutdown initiation options, please refer to Rapid
Shutdown Applications Note DAPP00002 for more
information. [This document is currently available on our
website]
Q: Can the PWRcell Battery Energy Storage System
expand beyond the single 18 kWh battery
cabinet?
A: Yes, the system is currently designed to parallel up to
2 battery cabinets for a total usable capacity of 36
kWh of energy.
Q: How many hours or days can the PWRcell Energy
Storage System provide power without needing
to be recharged?
A: The runtime of the battery is highly dependent on
what loads are on at any given time. If we assume
that a 1500sq ft house has an average load of 1.5kW,
then a 17.1kWh system would last for a little over 11
hours. Once the sun starts shining, it will support the
loads and recharge the batteries.
