1.6 Safety Summary
This section provides safety considerations designed to ensure safe operation of the ONS 15310-CL and
ONS 15310-MA. Do not perform any procedures in this chapter unless you understand all safety
precautions, practices, and warnings for the system equipment. Some troubleshooting procedures
require installation or removal of cards; in these instances pay close attention to the following cautions
and warnings.
Warning
Invisible laser radiation could be emitted from the end of the unterminated fiber cable or connector.
Do not stare into the beam directly with optical instruments. Viewing the laser output with certain
optical instruments (for example, eye loupes, magnifiers, and microscopes) within a distance of
100 mm could pose an eye hazard. Statement 1056
Warning
Use of controls, adjustments, or performing procedures other than those specified could result in
hazardous radiation exposure. Statement 1057

Before working on equipment that is connected to power lines, remove jewelry (including rings,

necklaces, and watches). Metal objects will heat up when connected to power and ground and can
cause serious burns or weld the metal object to the terminals. Statement 43

or installing cards.

1.7 Alarm Procedures

This section list alarms alphabetically and includes some conditions commonly encountered when
troubleshooting alarms. The severity, description, and troubleshooting procedure accompany each alarm
and condition.
When you check the status of alarms for cards and ports, ensure that the alarm filter tool in the lower
