Beam pointing

In this measuring mode, the pointing stability of a laser beam is measured and evaluated. For this purpose
the MSM+ HB alternately performs measurements at two different z-positions. As a result the position of
the center of gravity towards the tool center point (TCP) as well as the tilting towards the optical axis of the
device is determined.
After running a fully automatic pre-caustic, that is ideally started slightly above focus, the MSM+ HB determi-
nes on the z-axis the focus position (z
) and Rayleigh length (z
) of the beam to be analyzed.

For the xy-planes at z1 (focus position) and z2 (-2z
), the x/y coordinates of the center of gravity are determi-

ned.
The following figure shows an example for a center of gravity (beam center).
The coordinates are used to calculate the following values:
- x/y position and
- tilting (angle)
