Text strings are used to identify iDAS data channels and parameters as well as
Setup Variables These types of variables often include numbers or spaces within
their names that make them easy for the user to understand, but difficult for the
instrument to recognize unless they're enclosed in quotes.
Variable, Message, and Other Names
Some commands allow you to access variables, messages, and other items, such as
A2 data channels, by name. When using these commands you must type the entire
name of the item; you cannot abbreviate the names.

6.9.4. Asynchronous Status Reporting

Asynchronous reporting of status messages as an audit trail is one of the two
principal uses for the RS-232 interface (the other is the command line interface for
controlling the instrument). You can effectively disable the asynchronous reporting
feature by setting the interface to quiet mode, see Section 6.8.4.
Asynchronous reports include A2 reports, warning messages, calibration and
diagnostic status messages. Refer to Appendix A for a list of the messages, and
Section 6.9.2 for information on controlling the instrument via the RS-232
interface.
6.9.4.1. General Message Format
All messages output from the instrument (including those output in response to a
command line request) have the format:
X DDD:HH:MM [Id] MESSAGE<CRLF>
WHERE:
X à Command Type Designator: A single character indicating the message type.
