N° Test Point
4 Measure for 12 volts at 24 V Start
Relay (pin 30).
5 Ignition Switch in "OFF" position.
Measure resistance from 24 V Sys-
tem Batteries negative terminals to
ground.
6 Ignition Switch in "START" position.
Measure for 24 V at S terminal of 24
V Starter.
7 Ignition Switch in "START" position.
Measure for 24 volts at 24 V Start
Relay (pin 50).
8 Ignition Switch in "OFF" position.
Measure resistance from case of 24
V Starter to ground.
9 Set DVOM to read voltage.
Attach positive lead to battery posi-
tive terminal.
Attach negative lead to B+ terminal
of 24 V Starter.
Turn key to "START" position.
Less than 0.4 volts should show on
voltmeter.
POWER PRODUCTION - STARTING SYSTEM
Expected Result
12 volts
If good reading, go to next test point.
Less than 1 ohm
If good reading, ground circuits OK.
24 volts
If good reading, go to test point 8.
24 volts
If good reading, repair open in circuit
834 (WH).
Less than 1 ohm
If good reading, go to next test point.
If less than 0.4 volts shown, and 24
V Starter does not operate, replace
24 V Starter.

Other Result (Possible Cause)
Open circuit between 24 V Start Re-
lay (pin 30) and 24 V System Batter-
ies.
Open circuits between 24 V System
Batteries and 24 V Battery Switch.
Open circuit between 24 V Battery
Switch (pin 2) and ground.
24 V Battery Switch.
Open circuit between 24 V Battery
Switch (pin 2) and 24 V Start Relay.
24 V Start Relay.
Open circuit 833 (BK) between 24 V
Start Relay (pin 3) and ground.
Open circuit 834 (WH) between 24 V
Start Relay (pin 50) and 24 V Starter
(S terminal).
Go to next test point.
Open 832 (RD) circuit between 24 V
Starter B+ terminal and 24 V Start
Relay.
Perform F - 24 V Start Relay Test.
Check contact surface of 24 V
Starter with engine. Ensure 24 V
Starter is mounted securely. Check
ground strap between engine and
chassis.
More than 0.4 volts showing on
voltmeter, replace cable between
battery positive terminal and 24 V
Starter B+ terminal.
