K i c k s t a r t Assembly.
Remove t h e kickstarter crank c o t t e r pin and slide t h e
pedal off the shaft.
W i t h d r a w the quadrant and spring assembly from the bush.
Check t h e quadrant for chipped teeth and spindle wear, and t h e spring f o r fatigue
cracks espec~ally at the centre.
Change i f necessary.
Replace the assembly i n
exactly the opposlte way, making sure that the centre o f t h e spring re-engages w i t h
the same spline on the quadrant spindle shaft (See Fig.
25).

If
it
is necessary t o remove this lever the kickstarter
i
assembly must be removed (see paragraph above) and t h e kickstarter bush pressed

i n sufficiently t o allow the lever t o be withdrawn past it after removal of the lever
i
a r m peg screw.
The peg screw should be changed i f t h e peg shows any sign of
wear.
Re-assemble i n the reverse way.
Geacchange Mechanism.
Provided that this mechanism has been working satir-
factorily, there i s no need t o disturb it.
If, however, it should 'become necessary,
release t h e quadrant plungers and springs by raising and depressing the gearchange
pedal.
Remove the four nuts on the guide plate and slide the plate off the studs.
Slacken the gearchange pedal set screw and slide the pedal off the splined shaft.
W i t h d r a w the plunger quadrant f r o m its busfi.
Replace the springs if they have
become rusty due t o condensation, examine the guide plate f o r wear and relieve
any high spots w i t h fine emery cloth.

Replace the guide plate if t h e knife edges are worn.
If it is necessary t o remove
any of t h e bushes, the casing should be heated before they are pressed out.
Re-
assemble the mechanism i n the opposite way t o dismantling.
