D!smontl,ng Telescoprc Fork
i o p Lug. Remove t h e c r o w n and stem sleeve nut, undo the t o p lug pinch bolt, and,
using a soft metal drift, give the t o p lug a sharp blow from underneath t o loosen
it
f r o m the raper of, the stanchions.
Remove t h e damper anchor plate bolt and raise
t h e t o p lug lifting w i t h
i t
the t w o stanchion nuts which i n t u r n carry t h e pressure
tube and spring assembly, and the lower f o r k c r o w n i s eased downwards from the
frame. The complete fork assembly can be withdrawn from the frame as there is
sufficient clearance between the t o p o f t h e f o r k c r o w n stem and the underside of the
t o p lug. If care i s taken, the top ball race can be left undisturbed and the balls collected
f r o m the lower race as the clearance becomes suficient.
If the mechanic does n o t wish to disturb t h e steering colur;nn, carry out the first t w o
operations and proceed
as
follows:-
M i d d l e L u g P i n c h B o l t s .
Remove b o t h bolts
T o p Lug.
U n d o the t o p lug pinch bolt and loosen the t o p lug w i t h a sharp blow as
described.
Oil.
Remove the drain plugs
a t
the b o t t o m tube covers and let the o i l drain out.
Pressure T u b e B o d y B o l t . Remove these bolts from the base of the bottom cover
tube.
Pressure T u b e A s s e m b l y a n d Spring.
W i t h d r a w from the forks by liftin,: the
stanchion cap nuts.
F o r k Legs.
Remove from the middle lug by pulling downwards.
D I S M A N T L I N G T H E F O R K
Pressure T u b e A s s e m b l y .
Unscrew the t w o pressure tube securing bolts and
withdraw the pressure tube assemblies and t o p lug.
L o w e r N a c e l l e Covers. Remove the t w o middle lug pinch bolts and take OH the
lower nacelle covers.
B o t t o m C o v e r Tubes. Unscrew the dust excluder sleeves from the bottom cover
tubes and pull the cover tubes downwards sharply, this will remove the bushes at the
same time.
D u s t E x c l u d e r Sleeves.
Remove the t w o steel rings and the felt strip.
S t a n c h i o n L o w e r B e a r i n g .
G r i p t h e stanchion above the bearing surface and
remove the hydraulic stop nrrt and the stanchion lower b e ~ r i n g .
D I S M A N T L I N G T H E P R E S S U R E T U B E A S S E M B L Y
M a i n Spring. Compress the main s p r i n ~ and g r i p the oil restrictor rod in a pair of
pliers.
Remove the large cap nut and release the spring.
P r e s s u r e T u b e Sleeve.
G r i p the pressure tube and unscrew the pressure tube
sleeves.
