Dismantling Spring Wheel

Box.
Remove the four outside bolts from the plunger guide box
and unscrew t h e t w o centre bolts sufficiently
t o enable the cases t o be parted about
+"
(1.0
cm.).
Using t h e jig illustrated below, place the plunger guide box assembly
i n t o t h e jaws w i t h t h e concave side of t h e box towards the inside of t h e jig.
Tighten t h e jaws of t h e jig until the springs are sufficiently tensioned. Remove the
last t w o bolts and take off the cases.
Release the jig until the tension of the springs
is released and remove the springs f r o m t h e plunger guide.
S l i p p e r
Pads.
If these pads show n o sign o f wear,
it i s
unnecessary t o remove them.
W e a r
i s
generally noticed o n t h e thrust side only. (Front pad on the chain side and
rear pad o n t h e opposite).
To remove, unscrew t h e t w o screws holding the pad
i n position'.

ment o r adjustment purposes,
it
w i l l be necessary t o assemble the plunger box,
less
the springs, plates and rubber bilffers.
Between t h e roller and slipper pad there
must be an equal clearance of
,002"
(0.05 mm.) o n each side, t o allow for any defor-
mation of the box alter the springs have been fitted. T o enable the fitter t o obtain
t h e correct clearance, aluminium shims of .002" and
,003"
(0.050 and 0.075 mm.) are
available.
W h e n the pads are i n position, ensure that the screws securi-g them t o
the case are well.tightened.
