Decorbanising

Remove
ihe
l r o n r bolr and t i e back the saddle clear o f t h e petrol tank.
Twinseat.
This must be removed.
P e t r o l T a n k .
T u r n off the petrol tap o r taps and disconnect the petrol pipes.
\
Unscrew the four tank t o bracket securing bolts when the tank can be removed.
Take care not t o lose the rubber tank pads.
E x h a u s t System.
Slacken the exhaust pipe finned clip bolts, remove the pipe t o
bracket bolts, the silencer steady t o frame n u t and the silencer hanger bolts. Remove
each pipe and silencer as an assembly.
( O n the TR5 the branch pipe clip b o l t
should also be slackened and the left pipe and silencer taken OH first).
I
T o r q u e Stays.
Remove t h e nuts securing the stays t o t h e cylinder head bolts
and slacken off the stays t o frame b o l t when the stays can be disconnected.

E l e c t r i c a l E q u i p m e n t .
Disconnect t h e H.T. leads and remove the sparking plugs.

C a r b u r e t t e r - A m a l .
Remove the air cleaner connection and unscrew the t w o
flange nuts. W i t h d r a w t h e carburetrer from the fixing studs and tie
it
t o the frame.
If it
i s
desired t o clean the unit, unscrew the knurled ring securing the t h r o t t l e and
air slides and take away the mixing chamber assembly.
Carefully tie the slide
assembly t o the frame, out of harm's way.
Carburetter-S.U.
Remove the air cleaner connection and vent pipe from the
carburetter.
Unscrew the flange nuts and disconnect the t h r o t t l e cable at t h e
carburetter body when the carburetter can be removed.
R o c k e r Feed Pipe.
Unscrew the acorn nuts securing the rocker o i l feed pipe
banjos t o the rocker spindles and then ease the pipe OH the spindles.
R o c k e r D r a i n Pipes.
Remove the adaptor bolts
a t
the cylinder head only.
R o c k e r Boxes.
F i r s t
unscrew and remove the four centre bolts which secure the
rocker boxes and cylinder head
to
the block.
The next operation
i s
t o remove the
FOUR NUTS holding the rocker boxes t o cylinder head BEFORE removing the four
small rocker box bolts. Failure t o observe this W A R N I N G may result in BROKEN
CYLINDER HEAD LUGS.
W h e n all fixings have been unscrewed, remove the
i
rocker boxes.
E x h a u s t Push Rods a n d C o v e r .
Remove
C y l i n d e r Head.
Unscrew the remaining four holding down bolts, when the head
can be lifted off the block.
I n l e t Push Rods a n d Cover.
Remove.
I N S P E C T I O N A N D P R E P A R A T I O N
The method of decarbonising the parts and r ~ m o v i n g the valves and grinding-in, etc.,
